The number one cause of swirl marks on your car's paintwork is careless washing, whether its at home using the bucket and sponge method, whether you take it to a road side hand car wash, who use strong chemicals to remove the dirt, and then run an already dirt filled sponge they have been using all day all over your car, or whether you take it to a Drive-Thru automatic wash where the high speed bristles cause havoc to the paintwork, none of the mentioned wash methods do your car any favours, albeit they are cheap. But does the second most expensive purchase you make (after your home probably) deserve the cheap and cheerful maintenance?
We use a 2 stage wash method in our Safe Wash.
Step one:
Snow foam is applied to the car and left to soak. This will loosen heavy dirt and soiling and can be rinsed off without touching the paintwork, Before being rinsed off, a soft brush is used to agitate all the edges to get to otherwise 'difficult to reach' areas.
Step Two:
Now that most of the heavy dirt has been rinsed off, we will use a hand wash procedure using 2 buckets. One containing the shampoo, the other containing just water, The idea being that before each application of shampoo onto the vehicle, the washmitt will be rinsed into the clear water bucket, before being dipped into the shampoo bucket, so we do not reapply the dirt we have just removed back onto the car. We use a deep pile lambswool wash mitt to absorb the dirt, and we also use grit guards in the buckets to further aid in the Safe Wash. The wheels are also cleaned using a ph neutral wheel cleaner and a variety of brushes.
The vehicle will be dried using a plush microfibre drying towel. This procedure will minimise the possibility of adding swirl marks to the paintwork.
